General Physical Preparedness.
You can Crossfit for many reasons. Maybe you just want to exercise and get healthier. Maybe you want to lose weight. Maybe you like working out with cool like minded people. Maybe you are competitive by nature and you need to have a challenge on a regular basis. Maybe your job depends on you being prepared for the unknown......
I once read an article about Crossfit where the author was mocking us by saying Crossfit athletes were preparing for some superhuman feat that they might not ever have to face. Sure, I might live my entire life and never need to perform a heroic act....or, I might have to perform several in one day. Who knows? We know not what life has in store for us tomorrow. A mom or dad might have to save their family from a house fire. A teacher might have to protect his/her students from some heinous act of school violence. A firefighter or police officer may go to work tomorrow and not return home to their loved ones.
General physical preparedness is no guarantee for success. Crossfitters are not superheroes. That being said, I wholeheartedly believe that Crossfit athletes are better prepared both physically and mentally for whatever life may throw at them. When you train hard across broad time and modal domains, you are better suited to handle life's simple demands to the extraordinairy feats.

I agree, GPP, through Crossfit training is definitely a must have for anyone. We never know what life's going to throw at us. Why take it lying down? Be ready for whatever, whenever! We shouldn't just think of surviving a challenge, we should do what we need to overcome it and win. Being physically prepared helps us also to be mentally prepared. Mind and body as one.

Great post Freddy. Just last week I had to go over about 4 fences on an alarm. Before I started crossfit I would have dreaded trying to get my fat ass over each fence. Last week I noticed climbing them was easier, I had more flexibility and it even found it fun. I'm nowhere near ninja status yet... But I'm workin on it.

It's better to be prepared for possibilities than for probabilities

It is better to have the means and not the need, than to have the need and not the means. This is what cross fit is to me.

Great post Freddy!!! To me being prepared is a life mission not a sacrifice. Throughout life getting prepared is what we do. From conception, our parents prepare to give the ultimate sacrifice in making sure we have the necessities of life. Once we leave the nest, the hope is that we have the skills to continue to prepare ourselves for whatever life has to offer. Life is not robotic nor is it one dimensional. Being prepared is a constant work in progress because life is not constant it is ever changing. If you prepare yourself for the outcome of one thing then you have failed to prepare. Life is a big circle of preparedness. We will spend or should spend a lifetime preparing..If you don't I think you will be stuck in a time warp because everything else around you is changing. A superhero, I might be one day. A fit person: I am today; however, it is a constant work in progress. Evolve and prepare!!! We owe it to ourselves!!!

When shit hits the fan, you want to be in the best physical and mental shape you can be in.
Jamie, your a scary philosophical kick ass, croc wearing chick! It was nice to get a huge hug from you today!
And, of course Heather and Jamie loved the wod today! The evil twin and I were watching two cheetahs vying to see who was going to be top dog...er...cat!

Well said Freddy. As a LEO and swat operator I couldn't agree more with you. The gym I attend (Cynergy Crossfit, MA) has everyone from soccer moms, grandparents, fire fighters, cops, swat memembers and they all pure their heart and soul into each WOD. You just never know when you will need it.
