Besides these awesome athletes at One World, I have met some awesome athletes all over the world that are over forty. Many of these athletes are hanging and banging with their much younger counterparts. Lots of these folks (myself and all the athletes featured in the above photos included) didn’t even start Crossfitting until in our forties.
I am gonna say it right now.... Crossfit is a hedge against old age. Every workout I do is a beat back against father time. Lower body fat percentage, healthy blood pressure, better bone density, lower heart rate, lower cholesterol....you can go on and on naming all the health markers that will be positively affected by working out with intensity that Crossfit workouts provide. (Even more positive changes can be made with some simple changes in your diet.) Turn your health markers in a positive direction, and you will likely live a longer life with a lot less problems than men and women the same age.
It’s a short time that we are on this earth. I know that if I am not enjoying myself every single day I am alive, life would just suck. Being healthy is a a huge part of maintaining happiness.
Its never too late to take a stand against old age.
Post thoughts to comments.

WOD 7/23/2009
Complete 21/18/15/12/9/6/3 reps of:
- Deadlift (185#/135#)
- Burpees
Programmed by Chong
Coach's Corner: Wow! This is a lot of deadlifts. (84 each of deads and burpees.) You HAVE to keep your form tight on the deads, or you are going to hate getting out of bed the following day. Slow down just enough during the deads to maintain your lumbar curve. Drop the weight if you need to. Train smart!

Thanks Rita and so sorry Kevin. Total typo. I was squeezing in this post during breaks at SWAT training so I can't use alcohol as an excuse!

You're not kidding! These guys and gals are in excellent shape. They have about twenty years on me and I'm struggling to keep up. I'm in awe every single time. Speechless.

This link/ book was what started me on taking better care of myself. Freddy pretty much sums up what the book says but the book explains it in great detail. It is worth reading. http://www.youngernextyear.com/ There is both a men's and woman's version of the book.
Life gets easier after 40!!!!!

I had a career ending injury a few years ago. When I started CF with Freddy, I could only manage baby squats. Forget pull ups or anything else. I still remember Freddy's smile at my struggles. I was over-weight and in a lot of pain. I started CF when I was 41.
I've been CFing now for over 3 years. I'm stronger and healthier now than when I was in my 20's (working a beat). I wish CF had been around when I started my career.
Crossfit has changed my life -my physical and mental well-being!
Thanks Freddy!

You guys and gals are all amazing and are an inspiration to me everyday.
See you for dead lifts and burpees!

I just had a conversation with someone about this yesterday... I Crossfit and generally try to take good care of myself to have a better quality of life for longer. I would be more satisfied being healthy and strong until I'm 65 and dying at 70, than living until I'm 80 and being sick, overweight, having osteoporosis, etc. for the last 30 years. I want to be able to play with my grandkids for as long as possible.
I remember an article in the paper a few years ago about a guy who was maybe 78. He was completely healthy, would still go on his daily run and everything. He was out on one of those runs one day, and just collapsed and died. Completely satisfied and happy with life all the way up until it was his time. No struggles with crazy meds or life threatening operations. That's good stuff.
I look up to all of you! I hope I'm in half the shape all of you are in another 15 years :)

That's how I want to die. 80 years old and collapsing after a really good Fran.

I definitely agree. Club 40+ at One World totally rocks! Any day I can watch Brad hit a PR, Maria smash a 180# back squat, or Lori rx a WOD like nobody's business, reminds me that age is just a number. When I was in my 20s, I couldn't wait to be in my 30s. The One World rockstars definitely encourage me to look forward to my 40s, 50s, and beyond.
Maraming salamat (many thanks) to Club 40+ for your inspiration :)

Kudos to those that say f*ck age!!! Man... Before coming to One World I was afraid that getting older always meant less physical ability. But getting soundly beat at some WOD's by people at least ten years older than me has certainly changed that! I actually look forward to my later years now!!!

Maria and Mary totally humbled me on Tuesdays workout - whilst the rest of us got our arses kicked by the workout they destroyed it in no time and then cheered every last person through to the end. That's just really cool. All you guys are giving father time the finger - I love it!

I can't make it up today, but I'm gonna do the WOD @ Train For Life in Morgan Hill!

Thank you Chong for yet another BRUTAL WOD. This is the third workout that has caused me to get a migraine after. One was a run/row WOD and the other was this last Sunday's. I did a little research on Post Exercise Headaches but was just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences.
Oh yeah, and Happy Birthday to Marty "The Turtle" Mahon

Nothing the beats the sight of someone's first muscle up when you know they're going to get that dip after they've kipped through, and they let out that primal scream.
Great work Heather!
