So, the first workout for the CrossFit Games Open Qualifier is more or less in the bag. Is it just me does it seem that this workout that is structured so that there will be TONS of competitors with the same amount of reps? For example, as of this posting, I am 19 reps away from 1st place, but I am in 41st. I am quite sure that I will drop more by tomorrow since only a few of the top eight guys from last year have even posted their results.
In the end, I figure it all will come out in the wash. This workout favored the little athlete who is well conditioned. Maybe a future workout will favor a bigger, stronger athlete. Who knows, maybe it will make for a tighter race to determine who moves on. I won't start to worry unless next week's workout is max chest to bar pull-ups in seven minutes. Regardless, GAME ON!!!!

I planned on swinging by the gym on Saturday and setting up the camera so I could get videos of you who did the workout at 11 am. Unfortunately, I got stuck on a tedious call at work and didn't get to swing by the gym until everyone was done. Boo! If anyone has video of anyone working out, hit me up and I will give you the password to our Vimeo account so you can post the videos up.
I got this video on Friday. My apologies that the camera didn't start recording until everyone had completed one rep. From right to left you have Anna (77 reps), Chyna (112 reps), Bianca (92 reps), and Chris (89 reps).

I have to echo what Freddy has said. Had the Fran like cough for a good part of the day and it was a good warm up for the CFFB workout I did 10 minutes afterwards.
If there are a lot with the same reps, then this isn't going to separate the field. I am guessing that will come workout #3 or #4 at the latest. Last year the field of participants dropped dramatically after that.
There seem to be more participants this year signed up which I think is making the field more competitive as well. Plus many did it last year so it wasn't so new or novel. People know better how to train for it, when to do it, whether to repeat a workout...generally more ready all around=more competition. However, it is just the first one..let's see what happens from here.
And, Brad, no I didn't end up with one more than you..I stopped with about 4 seconds left and didn't do the one rep that would have beat you, brotha. Peace.

7 minutes of burpees is a garbage workout. Very cynical to start off the games with that rubbish.

LOL!!! I'M TIED WITH A DOZEN PEOPLE FOR 193RD PLACE, AND THERE ARE 21 PEOPLE AHEAD OF US 193RD'ERS TIED FOR 172ND, AND WE'RE ALL ONLY ABOUT 20 REPS SHORT OF THE TOP TEN GUYS. STILL 4 WORKOUTS TO GO AND I'M SURE THEY WILL WASH EVERYTHING OUT, AS FREDDY SAYS, BUT IT'S STILL KIND OF HILARIOUS.
