The NorCal Masters Competition & Expo was a fantastic event. Bonus points for the fact that the two One World competitors who entered the event did really well!
Diane Urban, in her first ever competition took 5th place! I can't tell you how proud I was to be competing with her. Diane had two movements that weren't in her wheelhouse: ring dips and double unders. In both workouts that had those movements, she rocked. You did great girl! I'll let Diane post her story about the event in comments.
I ended up taking 2nd place. I still have no idea how this happened. The last 6 months of working nights wreaked havoc on my training and my mindset. I have not enjoyed training at all. I went into this event with no expectations and seriously would have been happy to finish in the top 15. By the end of the first day, I was in 4th place, but still not very happy about my performance. I definitely did not feel fantastic.
So, I did what I do well. I went out to dinner, ate a gigantic chunk of beef and drank a bunch of Racer 5 beers. I got into bed early and slept like a rock. I'd missed a couple days of my dose of ProAnox Genesis, but Sunday I popped a packet and drank a trenta iced coffee (black) from Starbucks. I felt fantastic! To start Sunday out, I finished first in the chipper workout and my time was second overall in all age groups. Holy shit! In the workout I thought I would do the worst, I ended up doing the best. Go figure. My only assumption is that it is always better to have a smart game plan and be strong than it is to be simply well conditioned.
I had two first place finishes on Sunday, but then for the final, TJ threw 135# squat snatches at me. Why has he been so mean to me two years in a row??? I gutted it out and finished 4th in the final. I SERIOUSLY thought I had finished 4th in the competition. I was stoked to find out that I finished 2nd. Always big hugs and kisses to my coach and girlfriend, Chyna Cho, for digging shit out of me that I didn't know was there.
In the end, this competition will help me get my head back in the game. The CrossFit Games season is around the corner. I'd love to see more of you One Worlders give CrossFit competitions a shot, but One World will never make CrossFit competitions the focus of our program. Our goal is to make all of you stronger and better at life. (Side note: Diane has followed the daily program and rocked her first competition!)

Don't forget we have a new group training session added to the schedule this week. Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday at 10:30 am. Good times!

WORKOUT 1/21/2013
- 5 x 3 front squat
- 5 x 3 press
Then...
- Row 2k for time
My feeling is you should run the 2k in small heats, and everyone who is not rowing should cheer on those who are rowing. I would bet big money you will all row better this way. Can you get a 2k row time on the Wall of Fame???
Here are the times to beat:
Men-
- Eric J.-6:44.0
- Big Dave- 6:44..9
- Marshall- 6:56
- Caleb- 7:00
- J.D.- 7:03
Women-
- Anna- 8:00
- Christina- 8:35
- Tomoyo- 8:37.8
- Pineapple- 9:04
- Britny: 9:07
The guys times are pretty solid, but they are ready to fall if you give it a full on effort. The women's times are definitely ready for the taking. I am pretty confident there are a few of you women who are ready to crush the 2k if you just turn off the negative vibes ("I hate rowing!") and GO FOR IT!

Some inspiration for your 2k row.

Congrats you guys! So proud of you two!

It was an amazing weekend and I honestly could not have done it without my two daughters, Cobbie and Tula and without Chyna coaching and cheering me on. Chyna knows her stuff and she helped keep me relaxed (not so much my thing! LOL) and Freddy is just plain inspirational. The whole One World group that cheered us in person (thank you to all of you who came to support!!!) and from afar on Facebook and texting..love you guys and felt your support all weekend. Never ever done two workouts in a day let alone 7 in two days! Learned that is some real strategy to this sport and felt so blessed to just be competing and be competititive...there are some freakin' amazing athletes there...mind blowing how strong they are physically and mentally. Talk about nice people! They all made me feel like family which we were by Sunday afternoon. I LOVED my weekend, nothing else I would have rather done than hang out with my One World friends, my daughters, and kick some ass! It felt so great to not talk about work and just be an athlete....So excited and so happy I came to to the gym!
I did some CrossFit (half-assed) at San Jose PD for three years before joining One World end of last July...decided to really get a bit more serious after the Total CrossFit in October. Brad, Chris, Chyna, Freddy ....you have changed my life for the better in so many ways....can never thank you enough but please know I am dead serious! Love you guys!

Freddy & Chyna,
I wanted to say congratulations on your performance and a huge thank you for your support and encouragement this weekend. I don't know if I would have finished that chipper without everyone's encouragement. The members at One World know how lucky they are to have such amazing athletes and coaches there to train with and I was fortunate to get a very small glimpse of what that is like.
Thank you again and I can't wait to see how well you both will do this year at the CrossFit games!

Nice job all!
Freddie, you mentioned from the podium where to find all the pictures your father-in-law took.
For those of use with short term memory issues, can you post up the link? That fellow was awesome.
Thanks,
Sheryl (Crossfit Milpitas)
