Freddy its our age. I too have been putting on the pounds. I am normally a 160 pound racing snake but alas beer and eating what i want has caught up with me. I dont generally weigh myself but my jeans no longer fit me. At Crossfit London UK we did a 6 week challenge for Lent, about 6 weeks. I went strict Palaeo. My jeans now fit me. I wrote about it here:

Many times, people can get their daily amount of nutrients. From what I've been taught and what makes sense for me, supplements are good especially if you lack certain vitamins and minerals or other nutrients. You are correct, taking a "magic pill" and just sitting there wont' do nothing. Exercising and tweaking your diet helps you in the long run, your body is using up a lot of stuff and needs to replace that stuff quick after a workout. I take supplements before and after a workout to replace what I've lost along with eating good, as much as I can LOL!

I don't beleive in pills. I'd rather focus on my diet than take fat loss or any other tye of unnecessary pill.

It could work but I'd never try it. I agree thats theres no magic pill to becoming a great athlete, it does apply to losing weight/fat as well.

These fat loss pill companies seem stupid to me, but thats just my opinion
